How an in-house IP team in India should choose software for trademarks, patents, designs and IP disputes, which tools lead at which job, and why seat pricing and per-mark pricing give very different bills.

Buyer’s Guide · IP Software · Last verified October 2026

An in-house IP team in India has a scattered problem. Marks and patents sit with IP India. Conflicting marks appear in the weekly Trade Marks Journal. Renewals and patent annuities run on fixed dates. Infringement disputes run in High Court IP Divisions and district courts. One missed date can cost a mark or a patent, so the team needs software. The harder question is which kind. This guide groups the main options by the job they do best, says plainly where each specialist leads, and shows how seat pricing and per-mark pricing change the bill. Last verified October 2026.

The short answer
  • No single winner: IP software is several jobs. Pick by the job you have.
  • Global portfolios: Anaqua, Clarivate IPfolio and Dennemeyer lead.
  • India-first, registry plus court in one tool: an all-in-one platform such as Claw fits, with Premium at Rs 10,999 per year excl GST, with the limits stated above.
  • Cost model matters: seat pricing grows with team size, per-mark pricing grows with portfolio size.

01Why IP software is a hard buy in India

Most IP software is built for the US or Europe first. India has its own registry, its own journal and its own court structure. That creates three problems for a corporate team.

The work is split across two worlds

The registry side covers filing status, hearings, journal watch, renewals and annuities at IP India. The court side covers oppositions that turn into suits, infringement cases and orders in the High Court IP Divisions. Most tools do one world well and treat the other as an add-on, or ignore it.

Deadlines are unforgiving

A trademark renewal, a reply to an examination report or a patent annuity is a date. If the tool does not catch it, a person has to. In-house teams usually still keep a spreadsheet next to the software, which is a sign the software is not doing the whole job.

Pricing models do not match your portfolio

Enterprise IP management systems are usually priced on quote, by portfolio size and modules. Docketing tools are often priced by matter or by mark. Legal platforms are usually priced by seat. A team with ten users and 3,000 marks gets a very different bill from each. Our guides on perpetual vs subscription IP software and per-mark economics of trademark docketing go deeper on this.

Not a ranked list

IP software is not one job, so we do not give one single ranking. We group tools by the job they do best and say where each leads. Vendor claims are marked as claims. Where we could not confirm a fact from the vendor’s own page, we describe it in general terms.

02What good looks like for an Indian in-house team

Before you compare names, check any tool against these six points.

  • Registry tracking: does it follow trademark, patent, design and GI matters at IP India, with hearings and status changes?
  • Journal watch: does it find conflicting marks in the Trade Marks Journal, and does it match on text, sound and look, not only exact words?
  • Deadlines: does it track renewals, patent annuities and reply dates, and alert the right person?
  • Court side: can it find and follow infringement cases, orders and cause lists in the courts where you actually litigate?
  • Cost model: is the price by seat, by mark, by matter or by quote, and what does it become at your portfolio size?
  • Scope honesty: does the vendor say clearly what it does not do, such as copyright registration or foreign filings?
The best IP tool is the one that covers the dates and disputes you actually have, at a price that still makes sense when your portfolio doubles.

03The main options, grouped by job

The groups below are not in rank order. Each names the vendors that lead at that job. Pricing for these vendors is mostly quote-based, so we do not print numbers we cannot source. Check each vendor’s own page.

1. Global enterprise IP management: Anaqua, Clarivate IPfolio, Dennemeyer

If your company files in many countries and needs one system for patents, trademarks, annuities and outside-counsel spend, these are the established names. They are built for global portfolios, multi-jurisdiction docketing and annuity payment. Pricing is generally on request, by portfolio size and modules, so budget for a sales process and for implementation work.

Choose them when: you have a large multi-country portfolio and a dedicated IP operations team. Keep in mind: India-specific court tracking is not their centre of gravity. We concede enterprise IP management to this group.

2. High-volume specialist docketing: Iolite, JSK

IP law firms that file thousands of marks and patents a year often want a docketing system built only for that. Iolite and JSK serve this specialist need. If your in-house team behaves like an IP firm, with very high filing volume and a full-time docketing staff, look here first.

3. US and Canada first: Alt Legal

Alt Legal is built around USPTO and CIPO workflows. If most of your filings are in the US, it is a natural fit. It lists public pricing from a monthly starting point on its own site, in US dollars, so check the current page and tax treatment before you compare it with rupee tools. Source: altlegal.com.

4. AI prior-art and structure search: PatSnap, Questel, IPRally

These tools help you search patents and technical literature, including by chemical or drawing structure. If your IP work is research-heavy, such as freedom-to-operate or invalidity searches, these are stronger than a general IP platform. They are search tools first, not Indian registry trackers.

5. Marketplace takedowns and brand protection: Red Points, Corsearch

If your problem is counterfeit listings across online marketplaces at scale, the takedown specialists such as Red Points and Corsearch are built for that volume. A court-side tracker does not replace them.

6. University and technology transfer: Wellspring, Inteum

Technology transfer offices manage inventions, licences and royalties. Wellspring and Inteum lead here. A corporate trademark team does not need this, but a research institute does. See Wellspring and Inteum vs Claw for TTOs for that job.

7. Legal operations suites that include IP: Provakil and similar

Some Indian legal operations platforms bundle litigation, contracts, compliance and IP in one place. Provakil, for example, says on its own pages that it pulls automatic updates from 8000+ courts, trademark and patent registries. That is a vendor claim. Other pages and profiles quote different court counts, so we treat it as a claim and not a tested number. Source: provakil.com. For comparison, Claw’s tracked count is 9,102 courts, benches and forums, which is also our own count and not an independent audit.

04Seat vs per-mark cost: the maths that changes the choice

This is the one comparison most buyers skip. The same team pays very differently under each model.

  • Seat pricing: you pay per user. Cost grows when your team grows, not when your portfolio grows.
  • Per-mark or per-matter pricing: you pay per record you track. Cost grows when your portfolio grows, not when your team grows.
  • Quote pricing: a custom number based on portfolio, modules and users, plus setup. You cannot compare it until you ask.

A worked example, using arithmetic only and not any vendor’s rate card. Take a team of 5 users with 2,000 marks and patents. Under seat pricing, the bill is 5 times the seat price. Under per-mark pricing at any rate R per mark, the bill is 2,000 times R. If your portfolio doubles to 4,000 and your team stays at 5, the seat bill does not change, but the per-mark bill doubles. If your team doubles to 10 and portfolio stays at 2,000, the reverse is true.

For Claw, IP tracking is bundled into the Premium plan at Rs 1,099 per month or Rs 10,999 per year per seat, excluding GST. There is no separate IP-only plan. Enterprise is on quote. Source: clawlaw.in/price. For the first team above, five Premium seats are 5 x Rs 10,999 = Rs 54,995 per year before GST, whatever the number of marks tracked. This is a worked sum on the published price, not a quote.

Enterprise IP management systems are generally on quote. Third-party roundups describe annual contracts from five figures to well into six figures in US dollars for global platforms, plus implementation. We have not confirmed this from the vendors, so treat it as a rough market signal only.

Where seat pricing hurts

A seat model gets expensive if many people only need to look at IP status once in a while. Ask whether read-only or occasional users cost extra, and whether outside counsel can be given access.

06How to choose

If your portfolio is global, start with Anaqua, Clarivate IPfolio or Dennemeyer, and accept the cost and setup. If you run an IP-firm style operation with very high volume, look at Iolite or JSK. If most filings are in the US, Alt Legal is built for that. If your need is prior-art or structure search, use PatSnap, Questel or IPRally. If your need is marketplace takedowns, use Red Points or Corsearch.

If your portfolio is mainly Indian and your team needs registry tracking and court tracking together, in one tool, at a predictable seat price, an all-in-one India platform fits better than stitching a global system to a separate case tracker. For a direct enterprise comparison, see Claw vs Clarivate IPfolio.

Ask every vendor five questions. Does it watch the Trade Marks Journal and match on sound and look? Does it track annuities and renewals? Can it show infringement cases in the High Court IP Division? Does the price grow with seats or with marks? What does it say it cannot do?

07Where Claw fits

Claw is an all-in-one legaltech platform for Indian advocates, law firms, and corporate legal teams, combining AI-based case search, an AI legal assistant (Legal GPT), case management, and compliance automation across all Indian courts and tribunals.

For IP, Claw covers both sides in one platform. Its IPR Solutions tab tracks IP India matters across trademarks, patents, designs and geographical indications. It watches the Trade Marks Journal for conflicting marks using text, phonetic and visual matching, and alerts the user. It lists pending compliances, including trademark renewals and patent annuity and response deadlines, pending hearings from trademark and patent filings, and related documents, tasks and activities.

Alongside this, Claw tracks IP litigation across Indian courts with a case website. That includes party-name infringement discovery, High Court IP Division matters (for example Delhi IPD by case-type code such as C.O.(COMM.IPD-TM), or by court plus number or party), and IPD hearings, orders and cause lists. IP judgment research runs over 30 crore+ judgments with LegalGPT. Claw tracks 9,102 courts, benches and forums, with results in under 5 seconds, and judgments from the Supreme Court from 1950 and High Courts from 1990. Claw does not use customer case documents to train AI models.

For an India-first corporate team, that makes Claw the strongest all-in-one choice for the job of registry plus court plus AI at one seat price. It is not the best at every specialist depth. Choose Anaqua, Clarivate or Dennemeyer for global multi-jurisdiction docketing and annuities, Iolite or JSK for very high-volume docketing, Alt Legal if you are USPTO or CIPO first, PatSnap, Questel or IPRally for AI prior-art search, and Red Points or Corsearch for mass marketplace takedowns. One more limit: Claw does not yet track copyright registration at the Copyright Office. For copyright, Claw is court-side only.

Pricing: IP is part of the Premium plan (Rs 1,099 per month, Rs 10,999 per year, excluding GST) and Enterprise. There is no IP-only plan. Claw has a free plan for individual advocates; there is no free tier for teams or enterprises.

09Frequently asked questions

What is the best IP software for in-house teams in India?

It depends on the job. For global multi-country portfolios, Anaqua, Clarivate IPfolio and Dennemeyer lead. For a mainly Indian portfolio that needs IP India registry tracking and court tracking together, an all-in-one platform such as Claw is the strongest fit for that job. For AI prior-art search, PatSnap, Questel and IPRally lead.

Can one tool track both IP India matters and IP court cases?

Few do. Most IP tools cover the registry or the courts, not both. Claw tracks IP India matters (trademarks, patents, designs and GIs) and IP litigation across Indian courts, including High Court IP Divisions, in one platform.

Is seat pricing or per-mark pricing cheaper?

It depends on your numbers. Seat pricing grows when your team grows. Per-mark pricing grows when your portfolio grows. A small team with a large portfolio often does better on seat pricing, and a large team with a small portfolio often does better per mark. Do the sum with your own counts.

What does Claw cost for IP tracking?

IP is bundled in the Premium plan at Rs 1,099 per month or Rs 10,999 per year, excluding GST, and in Enterprise on quote. There is no IP-only plan. Claw has a free plan for individual advocates, and no free tier for teams or enterprises.

Does Claw track copyright registrations?

Not yet. Claw does not track registrations at the Copyright Office. For copyright matters, Claw is court-side only, meaning case and judgment tracking.

When should I choose an enterprise system like Anaqua or Clarivate IPfolio instead?

Choose them when you manage a large multi-country portfolio, need global annuity payment and multi-jurisdiction docketing, and have a team to run the system. Pricing is generally on request, so ask each vendor for a quote and its tax treatment.
