Wellspring vs Inteum vs Claw for Indian TTOs
Wellspring, Inteum and Claw solve different jobs for an Indian technology transfer office. This guide shows which job each one does well, what is verified, and who should not buy Claw. Last verified October 2026.
Comparison · TTO Software
A technology transfer office in India has to manage inventions from disclosure to licence, and it also has to keep the filings alive at IP India and defend them when a dispute reaches a court. No single tool does every part of that well. This page compares Wellspring, Inteum and Claw as three different jobs, not three versions of the same product, and it says plainly who should not buy Claw. Last verified October 2026.
- TTO lifecycle: Wellspring and Inteum lead. Claw does not do this job.
- India registry and court in one place: Claw, across trade marks, patents, designs and GIs, plus IP litigation in Indian courts.
- Pricing: Wellspring and Inteum are quote-based. Claw Premium is Rs 1,099 per month or Rs 10,999 per year, excluding GST.
- Not for copyright registration: Claw is court side only for copyright.
- Last verified: October 2026.
01The real problem for an Indian TTO
An Indian university or research institute TTO carries two kinds of risk at the same time. One is internal: invention disclosures, inventor agreements, licence terms and revenue sharing. The other is external: a trademark or patent that lapses at IP India, or a dispute that turns up in a High Court.
The internal work is a lifecycle
A TTO tracks an invention from the first disclosure form, through evaluation, filing and marketing, to a signed licence and the money that comes back. Software built for this job is organised around that story. It holds inventors, inventions, agreements and royalty splits in one record.
The external work is a deadline and a dispute
Once something is filed, the registry sets the clock. Trade mark renewals, patent annuities and responses to examination reports all have dates. Missing them can cost the asset. Separately, if someone copies your mark or challenges your patent, the matter moves to a court, and you need to find the orders, hearings and earlier judgments fast.
Most teams end up with three tools or none
Many Indian TTOs run the lifecycle in a spreadsheet, keep renewal dates in a diary, and ask an outside counsel about court status. That works until a person leaves or a date slips. The honest question is which of these jobs you want software for first.

Vendor facts on this page were checked against each vendor’s own site in October 2026. Pricing for all three tools changes. Confirm it with the vendor before you decide.
A TTO does not have one problem. It has a lifecycle problem, a registry deadline problem and a court problem, and different tools lead on each.
02Three jobs, not one
The fair way to compare these tools is by the job each one does best.
- Job 1, TTO lifecycle: disclosures, evaluation, licensing, agreements, royalties and reporting. This is where Wellspring and Inteum are built to lead.
- Job 2, India registry watch: tracking trade marks, patents, designs and geographical indications at IP India, with journal conflict alerts, renewals and hearings.
- Job 3, India court side: finding IP cases, orders and cause lists across Indian courts, and researching earlier IP judgments.
Wellspring and Inteum are strongest on Job 1. Claw is built for Jobs 2 and 3 together, for India. Claw does not replace a TTO lifecycle system, and the TTO lifecycle systems do not replace India court research.

03What to look for in TTO software
Five questions separate a good fit from a poor one.
- Lifecycle depth: does it cover disclosure, evaluation, licensing and royalty distribution in one workflow?
- India registry fit: does it watch IP India matters, such as journal conflicts and renewals, or only store records you type in?
- Court visibility: can you see IP litigation, hearings and orders, including the Delhi High Court IP Division?
- Cost and billing: is the price published, and is it in rupees with GST stated?
- Implementation effort: how long will setup, data migration and training take for a small office?
Check any registry fact against the primary source, which is IP India for Indian filings and WIPO for international filings. Software should help you track those records, not replace them.
04Wellspring and Inteum in detail
Both are established TTO vendors. We describe them as they describe themselves, and we rank neither above the other.
Wellspring
Technology transfer and innovation software from a vendor with 20+ years of TTO experience.
Strengths
- Describes its Evolve platform as the distillation of more than 20 years serving tech transfer and innovation offices, with workflow automation, targeted AI and data integrations.
- Its Sophia suite is built around the TTO lifecycle: invention disclosures, patents, licences and startups, with configurable workflows and reporting.
- Long track record with research institutions, mainly in North America and Europe.
Keep in mind
- Pricing is not published on its site as a fixed rupee figure. It is quote-based.
- It is a lifecycle system. It is not a tool for searching Indian court judgments or watching Indian court hearings.
- Check with the vendor how well it handles Indian filing and renewal workflows.
Best for A TTO that wants a mature, configurable system for the whole invention to licence lifecycle.
Inteum
IP and technology transfer management software with a long history in university TTOs.
Strengths
- Its company describes itself as founded in 1992, with its Minuet product serving technology transfer offices in many countries.
- Covers disclosure management, patent and trade mark tracking, renewals, licensing and reporting in one record system.
- A strong fit for offices that want a lifecycle database and an audit trail.
Keep in mind
- Pricing is quote-based. Third-party review sites list entry figures in US dollars that vary by source, so treat them as unconfirmed.
- It is a records and lifecycle system. It is not built to search Indian judgments or follow Indian court cause lists.
Best for A TTO that wants a lifecycle database with IP tracking and reporting built in.
05Side-by-side comparison
The table shows where each tool leads. No tool leads on every row, and that is the point.
| Job or feature | Wellspring | Inteum | Claw |
|---|---|---|---|
| Invention disclosure to licence lifecycle | Leads. Core strength | Leads. Core strength | Not a TTO lifecycle system |
| Royalty and revenue distribution | Yes, per vendor | Yes, per vendor | Not its job |
| IP India registry tracking (trade marks, patents, designs, GI) | Record keeping, confirm India depth | Record keeping, confirm India depth | Yes, in the IPR Solutions tab |
| Trade Marks Journal conflict alerts (text, phonetic, visual) | Not a stated feature | Not a stated feature | Yes |
| Renewals, annuities, pending hearings | Tracks dates you record | Tracks dates you record | Yes, from registry matters |
| IP litigation in Indian courts, IPD orders and cause lists | No | No | Yes |
| IP judgment research (30 crore+ judgments) | No | No | Yes, with LegalGPT |
| Copyright registration tracking | Record keeping | Record keeping | No. Court side only for copyright |
| Global multi-country portfolio depth | Stronger | Stronger | India first |
| Published rupee pricing | Quote-based | Quote-based | Yes, Premium Rs 1,099/month |
Where a cell says a feature is not stated, it means we did not find it described on the vendor’s own pages in October 2026. It does not prove the feature is absent. Ask the vendor.
06Pricing, sourced and dated
Pricing is where TTO software is least transparent. Here is what we could confirm, retrieved in October 2026.
- Wellspring: no fixed public price. Pricing is by quote, set by the institution and the modules. See Wellspring technology transfer page (retrieved October 2026). GST status: not stated; foreign-vendor billing and GST treatment must be confirmed with the vendor.
- Inteum: no fixed public price on its own site that we could confirm. Review sites list entry figures in US dollars that differ by source, so we do not quote them as Inteum’s price. See inteum.com (retrieved October 2026). GST status: not stated.
- Claw: IP tracking is bundled in the Premium plan at Rs 1,099 per month or Rs 10,999 per year, excluding GST, or in Enterprise on quote. There is no separate IP-only plan. See clawlaw.in (retrieved October 2026). Claw also has a free plan for individual advocates. There is no free plan for enterprises or teams.
A rupee price is not the same as value. A lifecycle system does a job Claw does not do. If you need that job, a lower price does not help you.
07Who should NOT buy Claw
Claw is the wrong first purchase for several kinds of TTO and IP team. We say so because a wrong fit wastes your budget.
- If your main need is the TTO lifecycle. Disclosures, evaluation, licensing, royalty splits and funder reporting are Wellspring and Inteum territory. Claw is not a TTO lifecycle system.
- If you run a global, multi-country portfolio. Multi-jurisdiction docketing and annuities are better served by Anaqua, Clarivate or Dennemeyer.
- If you run very high volume docketing as a specialist IP firm. Iolite and JSK are built for that scale.
- If your work is USPTO or CIPO first. Alt Legal is built around those offices.
- If you need AI prior-art or structure search. PatSnap, Questel and IPRally specialise in that.
- If you need mass marketplace takedowns. Red Points and Corsearch are built for that.
- If you need to track copyright registrations. Claw does not yet track the Copyright Office. For copyright it is court side only. The primary source for registrations is the Copyright Office.
If none of these describe you, and your pain is Indian registry deadlines and Indian court visibility, read on.
08How to choose
Start with your biggest risk, then add tools only as needed.
If the lifecycle is your pain, shortlist Wellspring and Inteum, ask both for a demo with an Indian example, and ask about rupee billing and GST. If missed renewals and journal conflicts are your pain, you need registry watch, and Claw covers that for trade marks, patents, designs and GIs at IP India. If a dispute is already in court, you need court visibility more than a lifecycle system. If you need all three, expect to run a lifecycle tool and an India IP tool side by side. They solve different problems and can coexist.
For where IP cases are heard, see the tracker of IP Divisions in Indian High Courts. Always confirm court rules and case-type codes in the High Court’s own published rules.
09Where Claw fits
Claw is an all-in-one legaltech platform for Indian advocates, law firms, and corporate legal teams, combining AI-based case search, an AI legal assistant (Legal GPT), case management, and compliance automation across all Indian courts and tribunals.
For an Indian TTO, Claw covers the registry side and the court side of IP in one place. Its IPR Solutions tab tracks IP India matters across trade marks, patents, designs and geographical indications. It watches the Trade Marks Journal and detects conflicting marks using text, phonetic and visual matching, then alerts you. It lists pending compliances, including trade mark renewals and patent annuity and response deadlines, plus pending hearings and the related documents, tasks and activities.
On the court side, Claw tracks IP litigation across Indian courts that have a case website, covering 9,102 courts, benches and forums. That includes party-name infringement discovery, Delhi IPD matters by case-type code or by court, number and party, and IPD hearings, orders and cause lists. Its judgment research covers 30 crore+ judgments, with LegalGPT, and results in under 5 seconds. Supreme Court coverage runs from 1950 and High Courts from 1990.
This is a different job from Wellspring and Inteum, not a replacement. For the all-in-one India IP job of registry plus court plus AI at one price, Claw is a strong fit. For the TTO lifecycle, Wellspring and Inteum lead, and we say so. Claw does not track copyright registration, and it does not replace global docketing, prior-art search or marketplace takedown tools.

11Frequently asked questions
Is Claw an alternative to Wellspring or Inteum?
Not for the TTO lifecycle. Wellspring and Inteum manage disclosures, licences and royalties, and Claw does not. Claw covers India IP registry tracking and court research, so many TTOs would use it alongside a lifecycle tool, not instead of one.
What is the difference between Wellspring and Inteum?
Both are TTO software vendors. Wellspring describes 20+ years of experience with its Sophia and Evolve products, and Inteum describes itself as founded in 1992 with its Minuet product. Both are quote-based, so compare them with a demo using your own Indian workflows.
What does Claw track at IP India?
Claw tracks trade marks, patents, designs and geographical indications. It monitors the Trade Marks Journal for conflicts using text, phonetic and visual matching, and lists renewals, patent annuity and response deadlines, and pending hearings. Always confirm status on the IP India site, which is the primary source.
How much do Wellspring, Inteum and Claw cost?
Wellspring and Inteum are quote-based, so we do not state a figure. Claw IP tracking is inside Premium at Rs 1,099 per month or Rs 10,999 per year, excluding GST, or in Enterprise on quote. Pricing was last checked in October 2026.
Does Claw track copyright registrations?
No. Claw does not yet track registrations at the Copyright Office. For copyright it is court side only, meaning it can help you find cases and judgments, not follow a registration.
Who should not buy Claw?
Teams whose main need is the TTO lifecycle, global multi-country docketing, very high volume IP firm docketing, USPTO or CIPO first work, AI prior-art search, marketplace takedowns, or copyright registration tracking. Specialist tools lead in each of those.
