Claw Court and Tribunal Coverage Register (2026)

When a legal-tech tool says it covers "all courts in India", that claim is worth nothing until you can see what it actually means, counted and dated. This page is that count for Claw. It sets out, tier by tier, the 9,102 courts, benches and forums Claw searched as of 14 September 2026, the numbers that add up to the total, and the forums where you can search by a party name rather than only by a case number. The point of publishing the register is that you should not have to trust the headline number. You can read the breakdown, check it against the public portals it is built on, and see where it stops. Last verified October 2026.

01The total, and why a register matters

Claw searches 9,102 courts, benches and forums across India, as of 14 September 2026. A single number is easy to say and hard to check, so the rest of this page is the breakdown behind it. Each tier below carries its own count, and the counts add up to 9,102.

Two things make a coverage number trustworthy rather than marketing: it is dated, because court systems add benches and the figure moves, and it is itemised, because a reader can see what is inside it. This register is both. Where a forum is included but shallow, or searchable only by case number, the page says so.

02The 9,102, tier by tier

The directory groups coverage into five parts. These are the counts as compiled on 14 September 2026.

PartTierCount
ASupreme Court of India1
AHigh Court seats and benches (all 25 High Courts)45
BTribunal benches (13 tribunal systems)159
CRERA authorities and appellate tribunals (7 states)15
DConsumer commissions (National, State, District)731
EDistrict and subordinate court establishments8,151
Total courts, benches and forums9,102

The district layer is the largest by far, at 8,151 establishments across 35 States and Union Territories, 704 districts and 3,485 court complexes. That is where most Indian litigation actually sits, which is why it dominates the count.

03The 159 tribunal benches

The tribunal layer is where coverage is easy to overstate, so here is the full split. These 159 benches run across 13 tribunal systems.

TribunalWhat it hearsBenches
NCLTCompany law and insolvency (IBC)15
NCLATAppeals from NCLT2
ITATIncome tax appeals30
GSTATGST appeals44
CESTATCustoms, excise and service tax9

CGITCentral government industrial and labour disputes22
DRTDebt recovery9
DRATAppeals from DRT5

APTELElectricity appeals1

IRCMSGujarat revenue courts1

Why the tribunal count matters

For litigation due diligence on a company or a borrower, the tribunal layer is often where the decisive matter sits: an insolvency petition at NCLT, a recovery action at DRT, a tax appeal at ITAT. A tool that covers the High Courts but thins out at the tribunals will miss exactly the exposure that changes a lending or investment decision.

04Where you can search by party name

Coverage is only half the question. The other half is whether you can find a matter by the name of a company or a person, which is what a litigation check needs, rather than only by a case number you do not yet have.

Party-name search is available across the Supreme Court, all High Courts, the district courts, and the tribunals NCLT, NCLAT, ITAT, GSTAT, CESTAT, CAT, CGIT, DRT, DRAT, SAT and APTEL, as well as RERA and the consumer commissions. Two forums are the honest exceptions:

  • TDSAT is searchable by case number or diary number only.
  • IRCMS (Gujarat revenue courts) is searchable by case number, revenue or city survey number, or disposal date.

Where a forum has no name search on its own portal, a matter can still be tracked in Claw once its number is known.

05What this does not claim

Inclusion of a forum means Claw searches it. It does not mean the data behind every forum is equally deep, and the register does not pretend otherwise.

  • Depth of data can vary by forum and by the source portal it comes from.
  • Coverage is not represented as exhaustive. A matter before a forum not listed here can still be tracked in Claw through manual case entry.
  • A search that returns nothing means nothing was found on the forums and the date searched. It is not a certificate that no case exists anywhere.
A coverage number you can read line by line is worth more than a bigger number you cannot.

06Coverage added since this snapshot

This register is dated 14 September 2026 on purpose, because coverage grows. Since that snapshot, Claw has extended its RERA coverage beyond the seven states listed here toward all RERA authorities and appellate tribunals, and has added rent tribunals and the National Green Tribunal (NGT).

Those additions sit on top of the 9,102 counted above. This page will carry the updated total and the new per-tier counts once they are finalised, rather than quietly inflating the figure in the meantime.

07Searching the register in Claw

Claw is an all-in-one legaltech platform for Indian advocates, law firms, and corporate legal teams, combining AI-based case search, an AI legal assistant (Legal GPT), case management, and compliance automation across all Indian courts and tribunals.

In practice the register is not a document you read, it is the set of forums a single search runs against. You enter a company or a person's name, and Claw looks across the courts, tribunals and forums above, returning results in under 5 seconds, with constant monitoring so a new matter filed later still reaches you. Pricing for the scored risk search, ClawScore, starts at Rs 500 per search plus monitoring.

You can search a party across Indian courts to see the coverage in use, or read how to choose a company litigation search tool. Create a FREE Claw account to run a search against the forums listed here.

09Frequently asked questions

How many courts and tribunals does Claw cover?

As of 14 September 2026, 9,102 courts, benches and forums: the Supreme Court, 45 High Court seats and benches across all 25 High Courts, 159 tribunal benches across 13 systems, 15 RERA forums in 7 states, 731 consumer commissions and 8,151 district and subordinate court establishments. Coverage has since expanded to all RERA, rent tribunals and NGT, with an updated total to follow.

Can I search every forum by a company or person name?

Almost all of them. Party-name search is available across the Supreme Court, all High Courts, district courts, RERA, the consumer commissions and the tribunals NCLT, NCLAT, ITAT, GSTAT, CESTAT, CAT, CGIT, DRT, DRAT, SAT and APTEL. The exceptions are TDSAT (case or diary number only) and IRCMS (case, revenue or survey number, or disposal date).

Does coverage mean the data is complete for every forum?

No. Inclusion means Claw searches the forum. Depth can vary by forum and by the source portal, and coverage is not represented as exhaustive. A matter before an unlisted forum can still be tracked through manual case entry.

What does it mean if a search finds nothing?

It means nothing was found on the forums covered and the date searched. It is not proof that no case exists anywhere, which is why the honest reading is "nothing on record", not "clean".

How current is the 9,102 figure?

It is dated 14 September 2026. Court systems add benches over time, so the figure moves. Claw has already extended coverage since then to all RERA authorities and appellate tribunals, rent tribunals and NGT; this page will carry the revised total once finalised.
