01How to check NCLAT case status, step by step
The official source is the NCLAT website at nclat.nic.in. It is hosted by NIC. The tribunal says users can see case status, judgments and daily orders through its e-filing portal at efiling.nclat.gov.in. This is free and is the primary source for any NCLAT matter.
- Keep your details ready. You need either the appeal or case number with its year (for example, a Company Appeal (AT) (Insolvency) number), or the names of the parties.
- Open the official portal. Go to nclat.nic.in and open the Case Status section, which leads to the e-filing portal.
- Pick a search type. Choose case number or party name.
- Select the bench (Principal Bench New Delhi or Chennai) if the form asks for it.
- Enter the details, complete the captcha, and submit.
- Open the record. Read the status, next hearing date, parties and any uploaded orders or judgments.
The official portal is the source of truth. Claw works as a layer above it: you search once, across every bench, and get alerts, instead of repeating the portal search for every hearing.
02NCLAT case status search methods compared
This table covers the common "by" searches in one place.
| Method | What you need | Where to enter it | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| By appeal or case number | Case type, case number and year | Case Status on nclat.nic.in / efiling.nclat.gov.in, or Claw | Fastest and most exact. Use the number printed on the order or the filing receipt. |
| By party name | Name of the appellant or respondent (company or person) | Case Status on the official portal, or Claw | Best when you do not have the number. Try short forms of the company name, and spelling variants. Claw handles close spellings. |
| By filing number | Filing number given at the time of e-filing | NCLAT e-filing portal | Useful for a new appeal that has not yet been numbered. |
| By advocate name | Name of the advocate on record | NCLAT e-filing portal | Lists matters handled by one advocate. |
The portal also offers a free text search. The first two rows are the ones most people need.
03NCLAT benches and cities
One page answers the city questions. NCLAT case status for any bench is checked in the same way.
| Bench / city | Covered? | How to search |
|---|---|---|
| Principal Bench, New Delhi | Yes | Official portal by case number or party name. In Claw, search by party name or case number across every bench. |
| Chennai bench | Yes | Select the Chennai bench on the portal, or search all benches together in Claw. |
Knowing the bench helps on the official portal, since daily orders and cause lists are listed by bench. A search across every bench in Claw removes that step. NCLT bench status (the tribunal below the NCLAT) is a separate search on nclt.gov.in.
04What the NCLAT status words mean
- Pending: The appeal is admitted or filed and has not been finally decided.
- Disposed: The appeal is finally decided. Look for the final order or judgment.
- Listed: The matter is on a cause list for a hearing date.
- For orders: Arguments are over or the matter is at a stage where the bench will pass an order.
- Reserved: The bench has heard the matter and kept the judgment for a later date.
Exact labels can differ a little on the portal. Always read the latest order for the real position.
05Cause list and next hearing date
The next hearing date appears in the case record once the matter is listed. For the day's list of matters, use the cause list on the official NCLAT portal, which is published by bench. If you follow a matter closely, set an alert so you do not have to open the cause list every morning. For the wider tracking workflow, see the guide to tracking tribunal matters.

07About the NCLAT and its case history
The NCLAT is the appellate body set up under the Companies Act, 2013. It hears appeals from orders of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) under the Companies Act and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, and in certain matters from the Competition Commission of India. Its orders can be appealed to the Supreme Court.
Case history
To see how a matter has moved, read the case record, the list of hearing dates, and the orders in order. For an appeal, also open the NCLT order being challenged, and check if the Supreme Court has since heard the matter. Searching for case law on a point of law is a different task. See the guide to case search across Indian courts for that.

09Frequently asked questions
Can I check NCLAT case status by party name?
Yes. The NCLAT case status search accepts party names, and so does Claw. In Claw, create a free account and search by party name across every bench. Try short forms of the company name if the full name returns nothing.
Can I check NCLAT case status by case number?
Yes. Select the case type, enter the appeal number and year on the official portal, or search the number in Claw. This is the fastest and most exact method.
Can I check NCLAT status by diary number?
Diary numbers are mainly a Supreme Court and some tribunal concept. For the NCLAT, use the appeal or case number, or the filing number given at e-filing. If you only have a diary number from another forum, search by party name instead.
Is NCLAT case status free to check?
Checking status on the official NCLAT portal is free. Claw also offers a free account, and you need to sign up to run a status search there.
Which is the official NCLAT portal?
The official website is nclat.nic.in. Case status, judgments and daily orders are available through the NCLAT e-filing portal at efiling.nclat.gov.in.
How often is NCLAT case status updated?
The portal is updated as the registry enters hearing details and uploads orders, often the same day or soon after, but not on a fixed schedule. For quick notice of a new date or order, set an alert in Claw.
Does the NCLAT have a Chennai bench?
Yes. Besides the Principal Bench in New Delhi, there is a Chennai bench. A search across every bench in Claw avoids having to pick one first.
